Official Side Event - The Forest Carbon Index
A major new climate tool developed at Resources for the Future will be demonstrated at an official COP side event on Wednesday, December 16. The Forest Carbon Index is an innovative mapping tool for policymakers and investors that illustrates the potential geography of REDD and reforestation activities, which some stakeholders claim can help cut global carbon emissions by up to 25 percent through an emerging market that could total $20 billion annually through 2020 – particularly in targeted regions of Latin America, Asia, and Africa. Panelists will discuss new work on REDD, including global geography and allocation of REDD credits.
This online and interactive mapping tool – www.forestcarbonindex.org – allows users to assess the impact of different policy scenarios on the supply of forest carbon assets.
Special Exhibit - The Global Adaptation Atlas
In a special exhibit at the COP 15 meeting, RFF will unveil a powerful new analytical guide to help the world’s nations map the estimated impacts of climate change and the adaptation responses underway.
The Global Adaptation Atlas (adaptationatlas.org) will present information needs for adapting to climate change through a user-friendly, dynamic online mapping tool that synthesizes and visualizes the diverse types of data needed for research, funding, planning, decisionmaking, and action on adaptation.
