President Obama’s clean energy goal of 80 percent of electricity from renewable sources by 2035 will no doubt include nuclear energy.
Energy Secretary Steven Chu has said that it will be one of the many sources in the energy portfolio.
Also, Center for Climate and Electricity Policy Fellow Anthony Paul’s research on the Clean Energy Standard (CES) concluded that from a purely economic perspective, in order to achieve the CES, nuclear needs to be included – a lot of nuclear.
So, given the nuclear crisis in Japan, do the risks outweigh the benefits of including nuclear energy in a clean energy portfolio to reduce greenhouse gas emissions?
