The Resources Radio team is taking a summer break for the month of August. But before they go, the podcast hosts—Kristin Hayes, Daniel Raimi, and Margaret Walls—are sharing some of their favorite episodes of the podcast and their own Top of the Stack picks, packed with great recommendations to tide you over through the end of the summer.
While the hosts are away, it’s the perfect time to discover an episode you missed, revisit an old favorite, or dive into a new book inspired by the team’s suggestions. We’ll be back in September with a new episode featuring Kristen McCormack, a new fellow at Resources for the Future, about the effect of extreme heat on student attendance and discipline. In the meantime, stay cool, stay curious, and we hope you have a wonderful August!

Kristin Hayes
Favorite Resources Radio podcast episodes: “I would recommend the Rails to Trails podcast episode with Peter Harnik. I also love the episode on artificial intelligence with Priya Donti—and the episode about the history of the Civilian Conservation Corps with Neil Maher!”
- From Rails to Trails, with Peter Harnik
- Using Artificial Intelligence to Tackle Climate Change, with Priya Donti
- The History of the Civilian Conservation Corps, with Neil Maher
Top of the Stack: “I’d recommend the book A Million Miles in a Thousand Years: What I Learned by Editing My Life by Donald Miller. I also want to recommend a podcast episode from Rumble Strip called ‘Finn and the Bell.’ The latter might require a trigger warning of sorts; it’s about suicide and is crazy sad on one level, but it’s also just about the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard.”

Daniel Raimi
Favorite Resources Radio podcast episode: “‘Logging into the Deep History of Climate, with Erika Wise.’ I remember really liking this one because it dug into an aspect of the physical sciences that was totally new to me.”
Top of the Stack: “I’m reading Jon Ronson’s So You’ve Been Publicly Shamed, which is about 10 years old. It’s fascinating how much has changed between then and now.”

Margaret Walls
Favorite Resources Radio podcast episode: “I’ll recommend the episode with Emily Browne about the US wildfire workforce, since it’s wildfire season.”
Top of the Stack: “The Big Burn by Timothy Egan and The Johnstown Flood by David McCullough, which are about big fires and big floods that changed the course of history.”
