Today, the Committee on Agriculture in the US House of Representatives is discussing amendments to a draft of a new Farm Bill. The Farm Bill is a massive package of policies that affect the US agricultural sector and food systems, and a new bill usually is passed every five years. Prior bills have tended not to provide equitable support to producers of color. Suzanne Russo, a fellow at Resources for the Future (RFF) and director of RFF’s Environmental Justice Initiative, discusses the opportunities in the new Farm Bill to reduce inequities and support a transition to a climate-friendlier agricultural system.
