In Focus: Reflecting on the Energy Transition in Wyoming

In summer 2025, a group of scholars from the Resilient Energy Economies (REE) initiative went to Campbell County, Wyoming to talk to local leaders about their county’s economic future. The area thrives off local tax revenue from its coal sector, creating a dependence on fossil fuels to support community programs. Researchers at RFF and REE, including Christina Cilento, are working to uncover how residents can continue to play a role as a major energy-producing county in the United States while still diversifying its local economy, creating resilience for an uncertain future.
